What is R lipoic acid powder?
R-lipoic acid, also known as dextrolipoic acid, is generally obtained from alpha lipoic acid through purification and separation. It uses 6, 8-dichlorooctanoic acid ethyl ester as the starting material, and undergoes thio, cyclization and hydrolysis to obtain Racemic α-lipoic acid (U.S. 2792406, 1957; U.S. 3223712, 1965) is then separated using a resolving agent to obtain R-lipoic acid. The yield of this step is only 45%. And S-lipoic acid is not easily converted into R.S type or R type, which wastes half of the resources and makes R-lipoic acid expensive.
Another process uses 6,8-dihydroxyoctanoic acid methyl ester or 6-hydroxy-8-chlorooctanoic acid methyl ester as the starting material to produce mesylate, and then stereoselectively produces R-lipoic acid (U.S. 5869713, G.Bringmann, J.Paust Z.Naturforschung 54b, 661-665, 1999), the single process is relatively complex, it is not easy to obtain pure products, and it is difficult to use in large-scale production or the production purity is not high.
The last process is to hydrolyze racemic 6, 8-dichlorooctanoic acid ethyl ester into (±) dichlorooctanoic acid (DCA), use (-) ephedrine to form a salt, split, thiolate, and cyclize (Acker et al., J. Am. Chem. Soc., 76, 6483, 1954), this method can basically save costs, but still about 50% of S-(-)-6,8-dichlorooctanoic acid is not utilized, and the cost is high .
